Wellness Program
Program keeps county office staff on their feet
Folks at the Roane County Schools central office are really watching their step
these days.
They’re keeping track of every one of them.

The PEIA Pathways to Wellness Stepping Stones Pedometer Program
The PEIA Pathways to Wellness Stepping Stones Pedometer Program is a 10-week program
to help you become more physically active, put more steps into your day and have
fun with your co-workers. A pedometer counts steps walked or jogged up to 100,000
steps. (0-99,999 & rollover) It will count any aerobic activity such as walking
or jogging.
The Stepping Stones Pedometer Program is now available to eligible Pathways to Wellness
worksites as a result of the successful pilot project. Five sites were chosen to
participate in the pilot project: Barboursville Middle School, Bluefield State College,
Clay County Health Department, Elkins Department of Highways and WV Tax Department.
All sites have benefited from the program whether it was weight loss or lowered
blood pressure to more motivation to make changes in exercise habits.

Success Story
This comes from University High School. It was sent by Susan Pinto.
First of all, I was really surprised at how many steps I walked per day. I even went
walking and counted 500, then 600 steps to see if the pedometer was accurate. First
the pedometer seemed to have counted too many steps but the second time it seemed
to count too little, so I figured it all averaged out.
Using the pedometer daily showed me that I really move around my classroom during the
day and that I move a lot less on the weekends. I have enjoyed using the pedometer
and check it often throughout the day. It reinforced my feeling that I'm doing something
good for my body when I park my car a little farther away or take the steps.
Thank you for allowing me to take part in the "Stepping Stones" pedometer program.
Sincerely,
Mary Kay McQuain
