The basics of healthy eating can easily be a part of your lifestyle. Here's how:
- Eat 5-9 daily servings of fruits and vegetables
- Use whole grains instead of refined (white) bread, rice, cereal or pasta
- Cut back on sweetened drinks and soda
- Limit fats to less than 20% of daily intake
- Use low fat dairy products
- AVOID buffets
- Ask for heart healthy menu items or baked, broiled or steamed items
- Skip the bread, roll and tortilla chips
