The Portion Plate

The basics of healthy eating can easily be a part of your lifestyle.  Here's how:

  • Eat 5-9 daily servings of fruits and vegetables
  • Use whole grains instead of refined (white) bread, rice, cereal or pasta
  • Cut back on sweetened drinks and soda
  • Limit fats to less than 20% of daily intake
  • Use low fat dairy products
  • AVOID buffets
  • Ask for heart healthy menu items or baked, broiled or steamed items
  • Skip the bread, roll and tortilla chips
